The dreads and dangers of abstract thinking are a big reason why we now all like to stay so busy and bombarded with stimuli all the time. Abstract thinking tends most often to strike during moments of quiet repose. As in for example in the early morning, especially if you wake up slightly before your alarm goes off, when it can suddenly and for no reason occur to you that you’ve been getting out of bed every morning without the slightest doubt that the floor would support you. Lying there now considering the matter, it appears at least theoretically possible that some flaw in the floor’s construction or its molecular integrity could make it buckle, or that even some aberrant bit of quantum flux or something could cause you to melt right through. Meaning it doesn’t seem logically impossible or anything. It’s not like you’re actually scared that the floor might give way in a moment when you really do get out of bed. It’s just that certain moods and lines of thinking are more abstract, not just focused on whatever needs or obligations you’re going to get out of bed to attend to. This is just an example. »‘Everything and More: A Compact History of Infinity’ by David Foster Wallace. (via mychonps)

Embroidered X-Rays by Matthew Cox.

For me, stitching has a nurturing aspect and acts as care giving or healing to the injured, a socially feminine sort of action, while the x-ray itself can be considered masculine and unemotional.

I’m making this tonight! Roasted tomato soup with a broiled cheddar top! It’s a fairly simple recipe.

My neighbor brought over at least ten pounds of fresh tomatoes from their garden last night because they’re going out of town and it would be a shame to waste them. I’m not really a fan of tomatoes at all, so I’ve been looking for either a tomato sauce recipe or a tomato soup recipe. I checked Smitten Kitchen to see if they’ve updated, and she had posted 3 tomato recipes on the first page alone! The first recipe was this one.

If you click through, you can see the recipe. I’m currently roasting the tomatoes and it smells delicious! I can’t wait to eat this tonight!
